Mission Statement
Brooklyn Seeds teaches school children about organic gardening, native plants and animals and protecting our environment. We empower kids by having them actively participate, plant and nurture the living things around them- from tiny seedlings and insects to giant trees and native birds. Kids work on directly improving their school gardens and their neighborhoods. Our focus area is Environment, Natural Resource, and Climate Justice – loving the earth, protecting and planting native plants and species while simultaneously teaching children and vulnerable youth to grow their own organic food. We use a multi-pronged teaching approach, including creative and free expression, music, movement, and art - while practicing compassionate communication methods.
At Brooklyn Seeds, we work toward an inclusive economy. We hire from the communities we work in, pay living wages, and work on building a democratic structure in the organization so employees can grow and neighborhoods can flourish, all while bringing nature and organic gardening back to their rightful place in both public and private education.
